Carver decks: change the shape, keep the surfskate feel

Changing the deck is the simplest way to evolve your Carver surfskate without starting from scratch. You can keep your trucks and setup while changing the stability, acceleration, manoeuvrability and overall style of your board.

This subcategory groups Carver decks by use: cruising, carving or park. The choice depends on your riding programme and the feel you want.

Carver deck shapes: what they do and how to choose

Each deck shape changes how the board behaves. These are the main options.

Cruiser Versatile and easy to use every day, the Cruiser suits general riding.

Fish Tail The Fish Tail has a strongly surf-oriented shape. It suits carving with a distinctive style and a silhouette reminiscent of a surfboard.

Pintail The Pintail suits long curves and smooth carving.

Round Tail The Round Tail balances stability and manoeuvrability. It is a versatile choice when you want a comfortable deck.

Single Kicktail The Single Kicktail makes manoeuvres easier and adds a more skateboard-like feel.

Squash Tail The Squash Tail combines a surf style with good corner control and responsive acceleration.

For easier riding, choose a more stable and smoother shape. For a livelier, more playful surfskate, choose a more compact shape or a kicktail.

Deck-only or a complete setup change: when should you change the trucks?

The deck changes the feel, but the trucks remain central to the board's behaviour. To significantly change acceleration, responsiveness or cornering stability, changing the C7, C5 or CX truck system may have more impact than changing only the deck.

Carver decks FAQ

Are Carver decks compatible with C7, C5 and CX trucks?

Yes, in most cases Carver decks work with C7, C5 and CX systems. With a standard skateboard mounting pattern, you can generally keep your trucks and change only the deck. The final feel mainly depends on the truck and the settings: pads or risers, bushings and wheels.

Which deck should I choose if I mainly ride pumptracks or bowls and parks?

Pumptrack: choose a stable but responsive deck, often a Round Tail or versatile Cruiser, to maintain control through linked sections and accelerate easily. Bowl and park: a more playful, manoeuvrable deck, often with a Single Kicktail, helps with control in tight corners and on transitions.

When should you replace your deck?

Consider replacing the deck if it has cracks, especially around the mounting holes, has lost stiffness, shows major impacts or no longer feels trustworthy. A change can also provide a different feel, such as more stability or a more playful ride.

Can I keep my trucks and change only the deck?

Yes, that is the main advantage. If the mounting is compatible, you can keep your trucks and change your surfskate by replacing only the deck. To change responsiveness, pumping or stability, you also need to consider the trucks.
