Bearings: what determines speed and noise
Bearings are the eight small parts housed in the wheels, two per wheel. They determine how easily the board gains and maintains speed. A new set is immediately noticeable, especially when the previous bearings have been exposed to water or sand.
Standard or stainless steel?
The stainless-steel version offers better resistance to moisture and corrosion. It suits riding by the sea, in the rain or on sandy surfaces, which are common surfskate conditions. The standard version suits urban riding in dry weather.
Maintenance
Avoid puddles and wet surfaces, which quickly damage bearings. If riding becomes noisy or a wheel stops quickly when spun by hand, replace the complete set rather than a single bearing.
Also check the wheels themselves. wheels Rubber worn into a bevel is less noticeable than a seized bearing, but it affects the ride just as much.
